Life is funny. We all grew up hearing that getting what we want is about believing and achieving, practicing unto perfection, and putting our minds to things. We were also told to be polite and composed when dealing with others...
After today, I firmly believe that the founders of those principles died long before the days of automated customer service and overseas call centers! Do you know what really gets you what you want? Complaining, pressing zero a hundred times until you get through to a real live person, asking for their supervisor, asking for that supervisor's manager, more complaining, total impatience bordering disrespect, and repeat... this time with more complaining.
What are we teaching our children?! I mean, have you ever solved a problem with a call center in India by believing and being polite? Nope. Not gonna happen.
Anyhow, that was my day today. I was on the phone with Apple (normally very helpful). My computer crashed after only 5 months. (Hence the lack of blogging lately.) Well, they were happy to fix it for free and give me back my computer just like it was brand new... except without all my programs and files. They wanted me to pay $200 to transfer all my stuff over! Yeah right. So I complained, almost cried (this always happens), talked to four different people, and finally they told me Apple "approved" a free file transfer. Sheesh!
I don't think I'd mind it as much if I didn't come so close to crying every time. It's so embarrassing!

Ha ha! I so thought you were going a different way with that title!
ReplyDeleteOh man! I totally feel you! Our mortgage company cordially double billed us for home insurance (5,000 worth of billed) and I was on the phone with India forever the other day. And whenever I start to get upset, here comes the tears and trembling voice. So NOT intimidating. Gr.
ReplyDeleteHahaha :) This is a hilarious post! Hilarious. If I don't forget, I might link to it on my blog. This just made me laugh out loud. I can totally relate...although I don't often get my way...good for you!
ReplyDeleteStacy-We can all relate. You sure did a great (and entertaining)job of putting it into words. I'm proud of you for sticking with it until they came through with what they certainly should have for you.
